A radiology technician is a medical professional who has been trained in the use of diagnostic imaging tools. These tools include such well-known machines as the MRI or magnetic resonance imaging machine, x-ray machines, and CT scanned machines, also known as CAT scans, which stands for computed axial tomography, which is a method of using x-rays to give the physician a 3-D look inside the patient's body.

In addition to actually performing the diagnostic imaging, radiology technicians are expected to prepare patients for the procedure. This includes ensuring that clothing and metal objects such as jewelry will not be in the way, and informing the patient of what to expect during the procedure.
